Sound Insulation
Efficient arrangement of available space involves not only a visual barrier but also a good sound insulation. We have carefully considered these requirements, and our manufacturers have developed special components, a technically flawless construction and first class quality control procedures. Our moveable walls have been tested by TNO Technical Physical Service at Delft University of Technology at ITA and Fraunhofer-Institut in Germany. Soundproofing up to 56dB is possible (59dB test results to follow ASAP).
A level that is every bit as good as the most modern fixed walls.
Multiwal has the latest test reports for sound insulation according to DIN EN 10140-2 / 20140-3 laboratory values by international testing laboratories.
Moveable walls are mainly applied to create spaces in hotels, multifunctional centres, conference centres, schools and boardrooms.
To make optimal use of these spaces, a good sound insulation based on the customer's wishes is required.
Most manufacturers test according to DIN EN 20140-3. Multiwal has the latest test reports for sound insulation according to DIN EN 10140-2.
It is highly important that the designer / user realizes that a sizeable difference is possible between the laboratory value and sound insulation of the installed walls in practice. It is very important in the design to take flanking sound transmission through the building structure into account.
To achieve a desired practice value, you have to take the following into account in the design:
• all stated values according to laboratory DIN EN 20140-3 / 10140-2
• sound leakage between laboratory value and practice value
• sound leakage in ceiling, floor, walls, vents, cable ducting and structural connections
• doors, glass cut outs and crossings in track constructions
For an optimal result we advise you to let us inform you in the planning phase of your project. As a regulation you have to take into account a sound leakage between laboratory value and practice value of approximately 10 dB. Some examples for roughly calculating the sound transmission:
Speaking loudly with a sound cone of ca. 65 dB / A
• chosen moveable wall 50 dB
• deduction flanking sounds ca. 10 dB
• this leaves ca. 40 dB in built-in position
• excess transmission ca. 25 dB which equals audible whispering
Speaking loudly with a sound cone of ca. 85 dB / A
• chosen moveable wall 54 dB
• deduction flanking sounds ca. 10 dB
• this leaves ca. 44 dB in built-in position
excess transmission ca. 41 dB which equals audible muffled/subdued conversation.
20 dB Whispering
30 dB Mediocre traffic
40 dB Normal conversation
50 dB Loud conversation
60 dB Very loud conversation
70 dB Mechanical sound (vacuum cleaner)
120 dB Drill hammer / breaker
