Work will begin on the construction of new fire stations in Blackburn, Fleetwood, Chorley and Burnley in the New Year, following final Government approval of a Private Finance Initiative.
Balfour Beatty has been chosen as the developer to build 16 new fire stations across the North West, including the four in Lancashire, with seven to be built in Merseyside and five in Cumbria. The new fire stations in Lancashire will replace the oldest (Blackburn) fire stations and those most in need of replacement, accommodating the changing needs and modern practices of the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. Along with modernising emergency response facilities, the stations will provide resources for community use, such as meeting and lecture rooms.
Niche has successfully secured work on this major PFI scheme in which we will design, supply and install our moveable partitions to various North West Fire and Rescue centre including Fleetwood, Blackpool, Bootle, Kirkdale, Newton Le Willows and Formby (with hopefully more sites to follow).
The Blackburn and Burnley sites will include new purpose-built training facilities and Fleetwood will include residential accommodation for the new Day Crewing Plus duty system. The new Burnley and Fleetwood stations will be built on the existing sites with crews operating out of temporary accommodation on part of the sites with no reduction in the standard of fire cover.
Our partitions will be sub dividing Community and store areas as well as meeting and lecture areas.
We are also currently about to complete the prestigious Strathclyde Fire and Rescue New Headquarters in Glasgow where we are sub-dividng meeting room areas with our revolutionary Multi-electric semi-automated moveable wall system.

Besides the traditional moveable walls and glass walls, our partners at Multiwal have developed a completely new concept: Commandoor Moveable Wall. This wall combines the openness and transparency of glass with a high sound insulation. The Commandoor is a moveable wall comprising two sheets of safety glass, encapsulated by aluminium profiles which ensure structural stability. Consistent with traditional moveable walls, the Commandoor is delivered with the Multi Electric system as standard. Factory crafted double glazing enhances the acoustic insulation. The permutations of profile finishes and glazing types are endless and result in a functional and stylish piece of engineering.
The slim aluminium profiles can be supplied anodised as well as powder coated in any available RAL colour. Because of the slim profiles, a very aesthetically pleasing pattern of lines comes into existence with the full transparency and openness of glass.
The Commandoor is compatible, with many combinations possible, to the already proven type Select, which leads to a functional and stylish unity.
• Commandoor Panel thickness 90 - 100 mm
• Soundproofing: DIN EN 10140-2 /
• 20140-3, laboratory values
• Rw, P 40, 42 and 44 dB
• Rw, P 46 - 50 dB*
Fully self-supporting aluminium frame construction. The panel connections consist of vertical aluminium panel side profiles, E6/ EV anodised. Vertical aluminium profiles can be colour coated as an option.
• 6, 8 and 10 mm VSG or ESG glass.
Surface weight 30 - 50 kg per m2, depending on the soundproofing
Our strength: a combination of two techniques in one design.

Bolton and Bury Junior District Football League http://www.bbdjfl.org/ under 15’s football team FC Turton Tigers , to whom Niche Operable Systems Ltd. Have been a key sponsor for many years, had a fantastic 2010/2011 season.
The orange and black Tigers played 21 games in the league and won them all, scoring 157 goals along the way. No other team in the Bolton and Bury District junior Football League has ever done this, and it resulted in a first place league triumph for the Tigers. They showed great skill and confidence in every game they went into and had a winning mentality, which gave them and extra edge on their opponents. Turton even finished a stunning 20 points ahead of the league runners up, which shows that they really did roar their way to victory.
However the league wasn’t the only success that Turton had. The team also had a great cup run, eventually reaching the final at Bolton Wanderers FC academy in Lostock.
Turton Tigers 50 goal hero and star striker, Dan Kidd, was on holiday in Turkey during the final and was so devastated about missing the occasion that he flew back to England to play in the final and then flew back out to Turkey a few hours after the game had been played, a 4,000 mile round trip! To add to the drama of this story even more the young Tigers player picked up a virus while in Turkey and his flight was delayed by four hours, which meant that he arrived in England just hours before kickoff. The cup final saw Turton face Worsley Juniors, a team who had finished third in the league above the Tigers, so a very strong opponent. Turton got off to an unbelievable start scoring 2 goals inside the first twenty minutes, which shocked their opponents. Unfortunately their opponents came back into the game a few minutes before half time, scoring a goal making the score 2-1. In the second half even the elements were against Turton, who were camped in their half for a large majority of the second part of the game, due to a strong wind. It was a thrilling game and with 30 seconds to go it looked like the Tigers had won their second trophy of the season, until Worsley equalized in the dying seconds. This sent the game into extra time, in which Worsley had the momentum having just scored. And unfortunately they used that momentum and scored a third, making the final score 2-3 to them. Despite this cruel lose in the dying seconds, Turton still picked up a runners up trophy, which was a great achievement and definitely something to be proud of. Overall it was a thrilling season that the whole team contributed towards.
Everybody here at Niche hopes that they can continue their success and even improve on last year’s performance in the 2011/2012 season. Good luck Turton Tigers!
Lee Darbyshire, Managing Director of Niche, is also the proud Team Manager and Coach of Turton Tigers FC.
